Identifying Key Challenges

Gabriel is a security technology startup with street surveillance cameras, understanding criminal dynamics and providing security for the entire neighborhood, not just a single location. The challenge was to reach new non-customer users while generating value for our existing customers. We aimed to demonstrate that we do our job and that our actions are effective to increase our percentage of users.

After a quick service evaluation survey with our customers, we received several comments about the lack of visibility of our service and the importance of better communicating what we observe through our cameras.
Some of the responses from our users were:

What do we see internally with our cameras?

We have a lot of information about the streets, so we internally investigated with our analysts the most reported and observed crimes and activities captured by our cameras and categorized them as:

Crafting the Solution

After gaining deeper insights into what our cameras were capturing on the streets, we cross-referenced this information with data collected from user research. A significant portion of users expressed a desire to view incidents and alerts. However, around 30% of respondents either did not find this feature important or were apprehensive about seeing crime-related content, fearing it might make them feel unsafe in their neighborhoods. Based on this feedback, we decided to implement the functionality as optional, allowing users to view incidents only if and when they chose to enable it.

The Solution ”Neighborhood Alerts”

Every alert generated by our cameras automatically appears on the map with a brief report. This feature is optional – if the user does not want to see or receive alerts due to fear, it can be disabled in the side menu.

Conclusion

This was a simple feature that significantly improved our metrics analyzed through Mixpanel. Additionally, it supported a strong marketing campaign aimed at attracting non-customers to our platform. The feature was well-received, and customer feedback post-launch indicated an enhanced perception of Gabriel's efficiency.

Using our solution we have

After 7 days in production, the solution resulted in a 20% increase in daily active users (DAU) on the app.
